Christmas Holiday

Our family tradition for Christmas Eve is to gather at my Grandma & Grandpa Mortensen's home, have dinner and exchange gifts with our Mortensen cousins. This is the holiday tradition I look forward to all year!! This year was great, we had almost everyone there this year, needless to say it was a packed house. The night was full of laughter and catching up. There is something very special about having that much family that loves and cares for one another together, it was such a sweet night. We all enjoyed watching Alexis interact with her cousins, Shelby who is one day older than her, and Jacob and Joseph (twins), who are one day younger. The four were full of life and laughter.

Christmas day was wonderful as well, Chris, Alexis and I enjoyed Christmas morning at home, we then visited Chris' parents and his sister, where Santa delivered a rocking horse for Alexis; we then traveled to my mom & dads where we had a wonderful lunch and a very exciting visit with my brother Ryan (on a mission in Chile). It was a wonderful day. Alexis had a great time playing the pile of boxes and paper after the presents had been opened. There is nothing like watching a young child enjoy the simple things in life. It was a wonderful day being with family.

Christmas Tree

This weekend we went up to Rock Creek and found our Christmas Tree. It was really fun. Alexis wanted to stay out and play in the snow, but it was too windy and she was cold after about 10 minutes. So daddy went and found a nice Blue Spruce, we brought it home decorated it, and finally feel like Christmas should be as close as it is.

Thanksgiving in Arizona

For the holiday we traveled the 10 hours to Queen Creek, Arizona to visit Chris' sister Michelle. It was wonderful to be in warmer weather and spend time with Michelle. Alexis had a great time. Traveling was a little rough, but she did pretty good. I was glad to have missed the snow in Alamosa, Chris was sad. I am sure it will snow again. Alexis enjoyed being able to play outside in the warm sun.

Winter Arrived

Monday we were hit with some snow that is probably going to stick for the long haul. We quickly realized we needed to get the correct attire for our little one. Chris was able to find a great deal on the most adorable outfit, we put it on her and she had such a good time playing in it. It was hard to get a clear shot, she would not hold still. It is just a bit big, but she didn't seem to mind. No we just need some boots! She is so adorable we can't wait to take her out and play in the snow!

Halloween

I know Halloween has passed, but I just had to post these photos. Alexis was so cute as a little Pumpkin Fairy. She had a great time hauling her little basket around and having people put things in it. We went to see the grandparents and great grandparents and a few friends and family. She was wiped out by the end, but seemed to enjoy it.

Weekend in the Mountains

This past weekend we went to the Brazos to bring some of the cows home. It was a lot of fun. This weekend seemed to be the first of a real fall, it was much cooler than we may have prefered but it was still fun. Alexis sat on Burt for a bit and seemed to really enjoy that. It was great to see how beautiful the trees are with all the color. I hope you all enjoy some of the photos.....

Birthday!

On September 27th Alexis turned 1!! It has gone by sooo fast, I cannot believe it. We had a great party at our house with tons of family and friends. It was a great time!

Update

here are some new photos of Alexis she was so funny, we had two cans of soda sitting on the coffee table and she was trying to haul them both off. she loves the cold cans. It looks like her preference runs with the rest of my side of the family.

The Weekend

This weekend we had a great time watching the Adams State home opener against Chadron State out of Nebraska, it was a good game, saddly they did not win in the end, it was a good effort though. Alexis had a great time clapping and yelling wiht the rest of the crowd. We also had a great time watching Uncle Lynn march in the ASC Show Band during half time. He did a great job. After the game mom had to do homework while dad and Alexis hung out with Granny Jan. We were all pretty wiped out by the end of the day.

thoughts

have you ever had a moment where you ran into someone from your past and finally had the opportunity to play out that 'what if i ever see them again senario that you played in your head'? Well that became a reality to me and i can say I love where I am in life. I have had my belief that things happen for a reason, struggles create stronger people, and the sad fact that some people will never learn reinforced. What a wonderful learning lesson life is. I wonder how many times do we need to be reminded that we are where we need to be and to be greatful for what we have and not wonder what if.....
